Kansas City Builders Andrew and Mason Homoly Named National Custom Home Builder of the Year

Andrew and Mason Homoly of Homoly Design + Build have been named National Custom Home Builder of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders, with the honor presented during The Nationals awards ceremony at the 2026 International Builders’ Show, one of the building industry’s most prestigious recognitions.

The annual award recognizes builders demonstrating leadership in craftsmanship, design, and innovation within residential construction.

The distinction places the Kansas City–based firm among the nation’s most respected custom builders and highlights the strength of the region’s design and construction community.

Founded in 1997 by Andrew Homoly and now led alongside with his son Mason Homoly, the firm continues a family building tradition that dates to 1903. Andrew began his career working alongside his father, Guy Homoly, learning the craft of homebuilding and the standards of quality that continue to guide the company today.

The firm builds approximately 12 to 15 custom residences annually throughout the Kansas City region and at Lake of the Ozarks, focusing on high-performance construction, sustainability, and homes carefully designed around how families live.

“Being named National Custom Home Builder of the Year is deeply meaningful because it reflects decades of disciplined work and a commitment to doing things the right way,” said Andrew Homoly. “Kansas City has an extraordinary community of builders, architects, and craftspeople, and we are proud to represent that tradition on a national stage. Our goal has always been to create residences that are not only beautiful, but enduring.”

Homoly Design + Build is known for its integrated design-build process, supported by an in-house team of architectural and interior designers who guide each project from concept through completion. The firm places strong emphasis on early planning and collaboration, reflecting the belief that exceptional homes are shaped long before construction begins. Every project starts with a detailed understanding of how the homeowner lives, allowing the team to shape spaces around daily life, durability, and lasting function.

The company has become known for homes where energy efficiency, structural performance, and building science inform every stage of the design and construction process.

The firm’s work has also earned recognition locally. In 2026, Homoly Design + Build received Project of the Year from designKC Magazine for its Lee Boulevard residence, a project noted for its design and construction — a distinction underscoring the firm’s influence within Kansas City’s residential design community.

“Homoly Design + Build consistently demonstrates the level of care in construction and architectural clarity that elevates residential design in our region,” said Andrea Darr, editor-in-chief of designKC Magazine. “Their national recognition reflects the strength of the work being done here in Kansas City.”

Andrew Homoly has also been active in the home building industry through the Builder 20 program, an initiative of the National Association of Home Builders that brings together leading builders from across the country to share best practices and strengthen the industry.

“Programs like Builder 20 challenge you to listen to your team, your trade partners, and your peers,” he said. “That’s how you continue to raise the standard of your work.” Mason Homoly, vice president of operations, is part of the firm’s next generation of leadership at Homoly Design + Build. Trained as a civil engineer, he oversees construction operations and works closely with the firm’s trade partners and design staff to ensure that each project reflects the company’s standards for durability, efficiency, and long-term performance.

For Mason, the National Association of Home Builders recognition speaks to the relationships and craftsmanship behind every project.

“When a family chooses us, they’re trusting us with one of the most significant investments of their lives,” he said. “That responsibility drives everything we do — from structural integrity behind the walls to the smallest details that bring a home to life.”

Even with the national honor, the firm’s focus remains unchanged.

“We’re proud of what this award represents,” he said. “But our focus remains the same — building homes that live beautifully and serve families well for generations.”
