Homoly Design + Build Partners with Habitat for Humanity to Build Affordable Homes in Olathe

At Homoly Design + Build, we believe that the spaces we create should not only serve our clients but also strengthen the communities we call home. That’s why we’re proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity of Kansas City to build three homes at cost as part of the Pathway at Heritage Park neighborhood in Olathe, Kansas.

This initiative reflects our commitment to giving back. For nearly 30 years, we’ve been honored to build some of Kansas City’s most beautiful custom homes, but just as important to us is the opportunity to use our expertise and resources to create housing that makes a lasting difference for families.

A First-of-Its-Kind Project for Johnson County

‍

The Pathway at Heritage Park development marks an important milestone for Habitat KC, it is the organization’s first “pocket neighborhood” in Johnson County, designed with a community land trust model. In this approach, Habitat KC retains ownership of the land and leases it affordably to homeowners. This enables Habitat KC to reduce the cost of homeownership by excluding the land’s value from the mortgage principal. If the homeowner chooses to sell the home, they will receive the equity they’ve built, along with a portion of the market appreciation. The remaining appreciated value stays with the home, guaranteeing affordability for the next homeowner.

Combined with zero-interest loans and a cap ensuring that no family spends more than 30% of their income on housing, this makes homeownership an achievable dream for those who would otherwise be unable to enter the housing market.
